Welcome to the Title III website

In 2002 the U.S. Department of Education awarded Pierce College a Title III, Part A, Strengthening the Institutions grant to fund a project designed to improve student success and student retention. The five-year project, funded at approximately $370,000 per year, has resulted in the addition of the following two activities:

  • An Active Learning Network that has expanded access to campus-wide materials available to students
  • A Academic Pipeline Coordinator that will improve student success and retention by developing effective relations between faculty at Pierce College, feeder high schools, and transfer universities
The Title III Strengthening the Institutions Program is a competitive grant program that was established by Congress as part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). The purpose of the program is to provide grants to eligible institutions of higher education to improve their academic programs, institutional management, and fiscal stability in order to increase their self-sufficiency and strengthen their capacity to make a substantial contribution to the higher education resources of the Nation.

The Title III Grant at Pierce College is administered by the Project Director Michael Cooperman and the Title III committee.
