Does the library have a copy of your textbook?

Follow these instructions to find out. You will need to know:

  • The title of the book
  • The author of the book
  • The edition and/or publication date of the book (the title, author, and edition should all be listed on your class syllabus).
  • If you are unsure about any of the above information, search the Pierce Bookstore.
  • You will need to have your Pierce ID card to borrow any library books.
Start by clicking on the book catalog link on the library's homepage.
Click on the Power Search link.
Type in the author's last name in the author field and the title of the book in the title field. Click on search. There's no need to use capitalization.
This screen shows the search results. If the library has that title book with the same author, it will appear on this screen.

If the library doesn't have a copy of the book, a screen will appear that says no matches were found.

Click on the details button for more information about the book you were searching for.

The item information screen tells you the copyright date and the edition. Make sure those are the same as the book you are looking for.

This screen also tells you where the book is located. In this case, the book is located at the Reserve desk (which is also the circulation desk) under mathematics. The 2 under copies means we have 2 copies of the book. The 2-Hour Book listing under Material means the book can only be checked out for 2 hours. Different books have different time limits.

If the library doesn't carry your textbook, you can ask your instructor to donate a copy of the book to the library.
