The Pierce College Library has a collection of over 80,000 books, two collections of electronic books (e-books), several article and reference databases, and librarians available to help you locate information in the above resources. Also available are:

  • Study carrels for quiet study
  • Group study rooms (two or more students, first-come first-served)
  • 4 photocopiers (ten cents per page, cash)
  • Computers with Internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 (black & white printing, ten cents per page, cash)

No food or drinks allowed in the library. Water in closed containers only.

The library will close on Tuesday, March 26th and will reopen on Wednesday, April 10th in the new Library Crossroads building.

Library Cards

Your Pierce student I.D. card is also your library card. Only currently enrolled students with their I.D. cards, Pierce staff and Pierce faculty may check out books or periodicals from the library.

Loans, Renewals & Fines

Circulating Books

Students may check out a total of ten books at a time with a maximum of five on one subject. Books are loaned out for two weeks at a time and renewed up to two times as long as no one else has a hold placed on the book. Books are renewed at the circulation desk or online through the book catalog (Your user ID is your Pierce ID number and your PIN  is the 4 digits (MMDD format) from your birthdate. For example, if your birthdate is January 31, your PIN is '0131'. We cannot renew books over the phone. Overdue books are charged at a rate of twenty cents per day, counting only the days the library is open.

Periodicals

Students may check out a total of ten periodicals at a time with a maximum of five of the same title. Periodicals are loaned out for one week at a time and renewed up to two times as long as no one else has placed a hold on the periodical. Periodicals may be renewed only at the periodicals desk - not over the telephone. Overdue periodicals are charged at a rate of ten cents per day, counting only the days the library is open.

Reserve Text Books

Some instructors put a copy of their current textbook on reserve in the library. Students can search the Online Reserve Desk for a textbook or ask a librarian for help locating a book. Reserve books vary in their overdue fine rates.

Classes

LIBRARY SCIENCE 102: INTERNET RESEARCH METHODS (CSU) - 1 UNIT

Recommended: Knowledge of Windows and basic keyboarding skills.

This course focuses on how to locate and evaluate information sources found on the Internet. These research skills will help you throughout your entire academic career.

The Los Angeles Community College District's Administrative Regulations on the use of district and college computing facilities specifically prohibit downloading, storing or displaying obscene or pornographic material. Misuse of computing facilities may result in the loss of computing priveleges. Violations of these policies will be enforced in the same manner as other District policies. Disciplinary review includes the full range of sanctions up to and including, but not limited to, employee dismissal , student explusion, and/or legal action.
