Traces the history and development of musical thought from ancient Greece through 1750. Emphasizes extensive listening through recordings and concerts. Designed primarily for music majors and those with considerable musical background.

Studies styles and forms beginning with the great classical composers and concluding with the music of the present day. Designed primarily for music majors and those with some musical background.A discussion of the major creative periods and twentieth century trends, highlighting composers covering a wide variety of time. Forms are discussed as they are encountered.
