Professor R. Gary Penrod

Professor Gary Penrod was born and raised in Provo, Utah. After working in various jobs (picking fruit, loading trailers), he obtained his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University (majoring in education, with minors in history, political science, and sociology). After several years teaching high school, he returned to BYU, writing experimental curriculum and teaching in its Laboratory and Experimental High School, while assisting in the University's teacher training program. He authored several Home Study programs. After obtaining a M.A. degree from BYU in 1968, Professor Penrod continued his graduate studies at UCLA, with an emphasis upon English History. In 1970, after a stint at Safeway Cookie Factory and Knudsens Dairy, he accepted a teaching position at Pierce College where he has taught courses in American history and English history.
