FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Full-Time Tenure Track

Pierce College is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a full-time tenure track position in English starting with the Fall 2008 semester.

 

 

Department

The English Department focuses on academic rigor and teaching excellence.  There are 16 full-time faculty members along with many adjunct faculty.  The scope of the curriculum includes basic skills, college composition and rhetoric, literature, and English as a Second Language.

 

Salary and Benefits

The current starting range is from $47,280 to $73,610 for the 10-month academic year depending on education and experience.  The PhD differential is $2,980 per academic year.  The District provides an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, dental and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.

 

Responsibilities

As a community college, instruction at Pierce College focuses on lower division courses.  Faculty members at Pierce College are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. The regular weekly teaching load is 12 hours plus five hours per week of office hours. Evening and/or weekend classes may be scheduled based on department needs. Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

 

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism OR the equivalent from an accredited college or university; AND;  

 

A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff and students.
