COOPERATIVE EDUCATION GOALS

* Gain a better understanding of human relations and "real life experience"

 

English Proficiency:

Cooperative Education/Work Experience courses require good reading & writing skills and ability to understand & follow written instructions.  It is recommended that students be eligible for English 28 or higher before enrolling in any Coop Education courses.

 

Computer Proficiency:

Coop Ed/Work Experience students must have a working email address that will receive emails with Microsoft Word file attachments and Microsoft Word to complete assignments.

  

1.   Enroll in the correct  Cooperative Education Track.

 

by your major (Work Experience Related to Your Major)   {1 – 4 units}

      Note:  Veterans may receive subsistence/credit for up to 4 units.

 

Cooperative Education‑General (Work Experience none Major related)   {1 – 3 units}

  

2.   COOPERATIVE EDUCATION TRANSFERABILITY: Coop Ed units are transferable by articulation to CSU campuses as elective units, in your major when the College offers your major. Most four-year colleges and universities offer Coop Ed and accept Pierce College units for transfer.  University of California schools accept Coop Ed on a case-by-case basis.  Check with the school you intend to transfer to for details.  The major listed on your college records at registration must agree with your Coop Ed Subject and your job objectives.

 

3.   EMPLOYMENT: You must be employed to earn credit for Coop Ed/Work Experience.  It may be paid or unpaid work with a profit or non‑profit organization; you may be employed in an internship, as a volunteer, or in a fieldwork program.  If you become unemployed and there is no immediate prospect of employment & you haven’t completed the hours required for Coop Ed credit θ DROP THE COURSE !!!

 

      TEMP JOBS:  Discuss the Coop Ed/Work Experience program with your worksite supervisor to be certain they are willing to participate.

 

      SELF‑EMPLOYED: If self-employed, you must designate a supervisor for your Coop Ed Evaluation process.  Contact the Director if you have any questions about this process.

 

 

4.   ATTENDANCE/TARDINESS:

 

CLASSES are scheduled to MEET: 

Weekday classes meet for ten (10) weeks one hour/Week at one of the following class meetings days/times.

                         Monday          5:30 – 6:30 PM            Room Village 8410A

                         Tuesday          7:00 – 8:00 AM           Room Village 8410A

                         Wednesday     7:00 – 8:00 AM           Room Village 8410A

                         Thursday        5:30 – 6:30 PM            Room BEH 1308

 

Saturday class meets in Room BEH 1308

 

        8:00 am – 10:00 am  Saturdays:  March 6th.  and  March 20th.        Room:  BEH 1308

        8:00 am – 11:00 am  Saturdays:  April 5th.  and  April 17th.   Room:  BEH 1308

 

 

First Semester Coop Ed students are required to attend ONE sessions Each WEEK and to sign an attendance slip for each class. 

 

Second, third & fourth semester Coop Ed students, are required to attend the first class meeting of orientation for the Spring 2007 semester and another class meeting or appointment with instructor for review and approval of your Learning Objectives.  Turn-in assignments on or before due dates to the Coop Ed Office located in the new Village, Room 8200.

 

Missed Classes: Absence from the class does not relieve the student from the responsibilities of the class.   Make-up assignments for absences are not permitted.

 

Exclusion policy:

It is the responsibility of the student to drop their class.

Do not anticipate the instructor will automatically exclude for non‑attendance.

 

**    No class credit will be granted to students arriving 10 or more minutes late or leaving class early.

**THREE TARDIES = 1 ABSENCE, 10 MINUTES LATE = 1 ABSENCE**

 

 

5.     CHANGE OF JOB OR SUPERVISOR, TERMINATION, DISABILITY OR ILLNESS LEAVE, OR LAYOFF:  Notify Coop Ed Office, immediately and complete change form.

 

Report any change of ADDRESS or Phone Number to the Coop Ed Office immediately and fill out a change of information Form.

 

 

 6.      COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE EDUCATION AGREEMENT (CONTRACT):  

The AGREEMENT is a signed document binding your employer, you, and Pierce College.

we cannot visit your employer nor give you credit for Cooperative Education ***

 

 

 7.     Required working hours accumulated during semester for related credit:

The total work hours required for Coop Ed/Work Experience credit is governed by state law.

Do not enroll for credit for which you cannot complete the required hours.
