Associates of Arts Degree - Plan
A: Transfer Option
Plan A is 60 units with 20 - 22
units in Child Development. The student has several specialized
options to choose from.
All students applying for this
AA must complete the Child Development "CORE" courses PLUS one
of the following options for a total of 20 - 22 Child
Development units.
CD1 - Child Growth & Development
CD 3 or 4 - Creative Experiences I
or II
CD 11- Home, School, & Community
Relations
Total: 9 units of CD CORE classes
PLUS one of the following options for a total of 20 - 22 units.
Early Childhood Option (21
units): This transfer option is intended for students who
want to be private preschool teachers.
Core Courses (CD 1, 3 or 4, &
11) plus:
CD 2 - Early Childhood Principles and Practices
CD 3 or 4 - Creative Experiences (whichever one not already
taken in core courses)
Plus any two of the
following:
CD 10, 34, 42, 44, 45
Special Education Option (21
units): This transfer option is intended for
preschool teachers and special education assistants.
Core Courses (CD 1, 3 or 4, &
11) plus
CD 44 - Special Needs I
CD 45 - Special Needs II
Plus any two of the
following:
CD 2, 10, 30, 31, 34, 42
Infant/Toddler Option (21
units): This option is intended for students who wish to
become Infant-Toddler care providers.
Core Courses (CD 1, 3 or 4, &
11) plus
CD 30 - Infant-Toddler I
CD 31 - Infant -Toddler II
Plus any two of the
following:
CD 2, 10, 34, 42, 44, 45
School Age Programs (21
units): This option is intended for students who want to
work with school-age children, or in before & afterschool child
care programs.
Core Courses (CD 1, 3 or 4, &

CD 46 - School Age Programs I
CD 47 - School Age Program II
Plus any two of the
following:
CD 2, 10, 38, 39, 42, 44, 45,
Administration and
Supervision (20 units): This option is intended for
students who want to direct or supervise in an early care and
education setting.
Core Courses (CD 1, 3 or 4, &

CD 38 - Administration & Supervision of Child Care Programs I CD
39 -Administration & Supervision of Child Care Programs II CD 65
- Adult Supervision
Plus any one of the
following:

Title 5 Teacher Option (23
units):
This option
is intended for students who want to work in a Title 5 public
preschool program. Upon completion of this degree, students will
qualify for the "Teacher Level" permit on the Child Development
Permit Matrix. Students will also meet the requirements for
LAUSD Provisional Teacher (See "Education Requirements" page).
Courses needed: CD 1, 2, 3, 4,
11, and
CD 22 - Practicum in Child Development I
(Note: students must have complete CD 3 and CD 4 for this
option)
plus one of the following:
CD 10, 34, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47
** All
courses must be completed with the grade of "C" or better.
General Education
Requirements: Complete "General Education Plan B; Option 2" (yellow
form available in Counseling)
