Donna Accardo,
    who came to Pierce in 1989 with a BA and an MA from University of Nevado, Reno, has studied Shakespeare with internationally known scholars as well as performed his works in the Los Angeles area.   Maria Bates
received a Ph.D in English from UC Berkeley, where she studied English Romanticism/post-colonial theory and discovered that even high-brow academics do the limbo. Before her venture to Berkeley, she earned a graduate degree in education from UCSB’s Gervitz Graduate School and taught high school English for several years in the Bay Area. She came to Pierce in Spring 2006 and is currently acting as faculty advisor for Direction, the student literary magazine. Karin Burns,
    who came to Pierce in 1991, received her BA and MA in English from UCLA.  She is a native of Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.  She has published on diverse topics, including Henry James, critical thinking, narrative experiments in women's fiction, as well as travel articles about her hometown in Brazil.  Her composition and literature courses offer close and timely attention to all written work.  Email her at burnskg@piercecollege.edu and find syllabi online.   Mary Chavarria

Cheryl Cohen Goss

  Yvonne Cooper

came to Pierce as an adjunct in 2005, and she was hired full-time in 2007.  She received her BA from Cornell University and her MA from New York University, where she studied literature and film.  She has taught at Santa Monica College and Pasadena City College in the Los Angeles area as well as in the San Diego area: San Diego State, San Diego City College, Southwestern College and Grossmont/Cuyamaca College.  We are very glad to have her here, as she brings great enthusiasm for the job.

Monique Dobbertin
graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Humanities (with an emphasis in Film Studies and English Literature). After working for several years in the music and film industries she returned to school at Seattle University where she received an M.Ed. (with a TESOL emphasis). During the course of her graduate program, she also earned a TESOL Certificate from the Seattle School of TESOL. Since 1997, Ms. Dobbertin has taught EFL, ESL, and English in both private and public schools, including Seattle Language Academy, South Seattle Community College, Santa Monica College and Los Angeles Pierce College. She began teaching full-time at Pierce College in the Fall of 2000. Her phone is (818)710-2883. Her office is 2505.

Richard Follett,
    who came to Pierce in 1984 with a BA, an AM, and an AD from The University of Michigan, has a varied background in private and public schools in Michigan, Florid, and California. He is very active in school and community affairs, having been President of the Academic Senate and chair of the Pierce College Council, chair of the Curriculum Committee and Co-Chair of the Planning Committee, advisor to the Gay and Lesbian Association, and founding advisor to ACCESS (for Learning Disabled Students). He has published on the topics of feminism, gay/lesbian concerns, religious issues, and language and literature. In 1998, he won the Hayward Award for Excellence in Education from the California State Academic Senate. Since September 2001, he has been a member of the baritone section of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

Marjorie Hoskinson,
who came to Pierce in 1967 with a BA and an MA from UCLA, has created the mythology, science fiction, children's literature and women's literature classes, created a reader for English 21,  and taught the literature part of the Humanities Core Curriculum (Humanities 11, 12, 13, 14, a program that has been discontinued).  She specializes in returning essays quickly and using e-mail, flash disks and other electronic media in instruction.  She conducts an online English 101 course.  Her email address is hoskinml@piercecollege.edu and her phone is (818)710-4102 in office 3105.

  Jodi Johnson,
    a former student at Pierce College with a BA and an MA in English/Creative Writimg from CSUN and an MA in English Literature from UCLA, has been a professor in the English Department since 1986.  She published a book of poetry, Feeding the Animals, in 1992 and won a fellowship from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1993 for a screenplay, Mama & Me.  She worked for Walt Disney Pictures on the film Mulan (1998) and has two screenplays currently in pre-production, one of which is based on the life of the poet Lord Byron.  At Pierce she teaches composition and literature courses and is the faculty advisor to the campus literary magazine, Direction.   Larry Kirkorian
    came to Pierce in 1988 with a BA from Point Loma College and an MA from UCLA.  Krikorian teaches fiction, "war novels," in the Spring.  He rides road bikes and has a USCF license.  He studied British and American literature under Allen, Tennyson, Kolb, and Colacurcio, among others.   Craig Kramer
    returned to full time teaching at Pierce in 2006. He has his BA from UCSB and his AM is from the University of Michigan. He started teaching here at Pierce in 1989, left in 1998, and returned as an adjunct in 2000. We are glad to have him back. He teaches ESL, comp.(21 - 102), and lit. (Shakespeare, Fiction, Bible as Lit., Film as Lit.) courses.

Sandra Schneider,
    with a BA from UC Irvine, an MA from Claremont Graduate University and ESL Certification from UC Santa Barbara, has taught at Louisiana State University, University of San Francisco, Pepperdine University and LA City College.  In 1991, she joined the faculty at Pierce college, where she teaches a wide range of ESL, composition and literature classes.  Her email is schneisa@piercecollege.edu and her phone is 710-4322.
