The Lady Brahmas had another great season at Pierce with a 21-1-2 record and were ranked 3rd in the Nation. Not only did the Pierce ladies continue their winning tradition by winning 10+ games for the 10th straight year, they have won an amazing 181 games in the 10 years. Their overall record is an incredible 181-27-30.
The Lady Brahmas were ranked 1st in the South Region and made it to the Southern California State Playoffs for the 10th straight year where they advanced to the Southern California Final by beating Long Beach in the 1st round. In the second round Pierce defeated El Camino College. In the Southern State Final Pierce lost to #4 Cerritos College 2-1.
Pierce was led by 2010 Western State Conference Player of the Year, Team MVP and Captain, Erica Vangsness. “EV” not only led the Brahmas with 29 goal and 19 assists but led all of California and broke the all time scoring record for Pierce. Due to her aggressive style of play “EV” has attracted several Division 1 and 2 programs.
The Pierce ladies were ranked 3rd in the Nation only allowing 10 goals all year and having 16 shutouts. A big part of that success was Marissa Graska who allowed only 7 goals and was 3rd best in the State and earned First Team All Conference. Best Defense Award and Second team all Conference went to freshman Jenny Vanegas who played like a veteran in the back line and was a big part of the Brahmas defense. Nikki Jovel who started the year injured recovered in time to also make a presence in the back line, for her effort Jovel earned first team all Conference and the Coach’s Award. Captain Sam Tan was also a big presence in the back line for the lady Brahmas and for her efforts earned Second Team All Conference. Andrea Ulloa worked hard every day and had a great attitude on and off the field putting the team first Ulloa earned the Coaches Award.
This year’s most improved was Violet Perez; followed by freshman of the Year Daisy Alvarenga and “Little” Jessica Gonzalez. Daisy a true freshman also earned Second Team All Conference controlled the midfield like no other and Jessica also earning First Team All Conference controlled the free kicks scoring one of the best free kicks in schools history. Despite missing a few games Nora Perez was another force to be reckoned with in the middle of the field taking on up to 5 players at a time. For her efforts Perez received Second Team All Conference. The Brahmas scored 93 goals this year 19 of those goals were scored by Briana “B-Rad” Behrad also adding 9 assists. A true freshman, for her effort she earned Best Offense Player and First Team All Conference. She is determined to break the scoring record next year. Together everyone achieves more and without the exceptional contribution of Elda Chavarin, Janelly De La Puente, Sophie Forrester, Joyce Melara, Alexandra Ramirez, Brenda Ceja, Kristen Rosado, Briana Chopin and Ericka Ceja the season would not have been possible.
Last but by no means least, Ani Eishoei was the 1st second year captain at Pierce. She was one of the strongest and aggressive players on the team and for her hard work earned First Team All Conference scoring 9 goals with 7 assist. Ani Eishoei, also earned Brahma of the Year, which is a special award not given every year.

2010 Women's Volleyball Champions |
 |
 |
 |
Past Decade Recap
The Women's Volleyball Program has come a long way since the head coach of the Brahmas, Nabil Mardini, took over the helm. It is worth noting that in the past TEN years, the program holds a record of 217 wins to 50 losses (~77% winning percentage), winner of nine consecutive Western State Conference championships, four Elite Eight appearances, the 2006 state runner up, and most recently 2010 State Champions.
2008 & 2009 Seasons Recap
In 2008, the volleyball team finished with a record of 32 wins to only two losses. The team was ranked the number one team in the state for nine consecutive weeks before losing a heart breaker in the second round of playoffs that denied the Brahmas a trip to the Elite Eight and ended their 61-game winning streak at home that dated back since October 11th of 2002.
This past 2009 season, the Brahmas not only returned three sophomores from the 2008 squad, BUT were hit with the injury bug as five players were out with injuries including the 2008 Player-of -the Year, Sarah Martin (stress fracture). Only one of the five injured players came back to play out the season
2010 Season Outlook & A Message to the Fans from Head Coach Nabil Mardini
Considering the unusual circumstances that plagued the program in 2009, this 2010 squad was armed with “the best recruiting class in 10 years” in the words of head coach Nabil Mardini. The Pierce’s women’s volleyball team geared up for the 2010 season that had its first scheduled match on September 10 against last year number one team in the state (during the regular season), Pasadena College. Pierce also hosted its first Invitational Volleyball Tournament on September 24 & 25 that includes, Palomar, Pasadena, Golden West, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Saddleback, and Bakersfield and won the tournament by defeating Pasadena in the final match. Sophomore 2008 All-State and Player-of-the-Year and AVCA 2010 Player-of-the-year: Sarah Martin and 2009 Second-Team-All-Conference Reanna Hill headlined a group of freshmen that comprise one of Pierce’s most exciting incoming classes in a decade and helped the Brahmas captured its first title in the 32-year history of the state tournament on December 5th in by defeating Santa Rosa in the finals.
“I want to thank you for your support of our team. I am very optimistic and looking forward to an exciting 2010 season. I could not be more pleased with the 2010 squad and the progress that they have made so far over the spring and summer season. What you will see on the court on game day is a somewhat of a “finished” product. What you don’t see is the amount of preparation, sacrifices, and the everyday grind that our players have to endure throughout the season and off-season in order to become an integral part of the team.
You have my assurances that a great deal of thought, measurement, and time goes into preparing our players to meet their potential both as individuals, and as a team. Your support of the women is very much appreciated. Hope to see you in the gym and hope you enjoy the Brahmas put on a good show night in and night out!”
2010 Season Results - STATE CHAMPS!
In one of Pierce’s most exciting matches of the 2010 season, the Brahmas captured its first title in the 32-year history of the state tournament on December 5th by defeating Santa Rosa in the finals.
In the decisive game, Sarah Martin and Sam Potter combined for 14 kills of the team’s total 16 kills and carried the team to a 25-23 win and crowned the Brahmas 2010 State Champs. Pierce is the first team to be a first-time state champion since Cerritos College in 1992 and only the eighth community college to win the state title. Also, congratulations to the following players for making the 2010 All-CCCAA Women’s Volleyball State Tournament Team: Sarah Martin, Samantha Potter, Julianna Hicks, Kathleen Wright, Veronika Ban.
